The problem? Pastor Rob is a kind, guitar-playing, jeans-wearing millennial minister, which Meemaw finds charming. But Mary is horrified. Not because of the age gap (Meemaw is in her late 60s, Rob is in his 30s), but because her mother is dating anyone outside of marriage after Mary’s father died. To make matters worse, Mary is sworn to secrecy—she promised Meemaw not to tell George.

When Sheldon returns from school to find his experimental subject missing and a bucket of her alleged “cousins” on the kitchen table, he goes into full meltdown mode. He delivers a deadpan, devastating lecture to his father about the violation of the scientific method, concluding with: “You have not only destroyed my project, you have made me an accomplice to cannibalism.”

Mary is stunned. All her anxiety, secrecy, and fried-chicken-induced rage were for nothing. Meemaw then adds the final twist: “I’m seeing someone new. A retired oil executive named Dale. He’s my age, he chews tobacco, and he calls me ‘good-lookin’.’ You’ll hate him.”

The episode opens with Sheldon begrudgingly participating in a sixth-grade science fair project. His chosen subject: To conduct his experiment, he acquires a live hen, which he names Millicent .

The episode builds to the wedding of Pastor Rob’s brother, held at the church. Mary, George, Meemaw, and the kids all attend. During the reception, Mary pulls Pastor Rob aside, prepared to deliver a stern warning about his relationship with her mother.
