Password When There Is None - Windows 11 Asking For Network
Then Mira laughed, suddenly awake. “Wait—this happened to me last week. It’s a ghost bug. Windows 11 sometimes asks for a network password when the permission structure is set to ‘no password,’ but the security policy for blank passwords is disabled by default in newer builds. So it’s asking for something that doesn’t exist because it’s not allowed to accept ‘none.’”
“I don’t even know what that means.”
He clicked the shared drive. A dialog box popped up, pristine and infuriating: windows 11 asking for network password when there is none
He fumbled through the menus—each click a small prayer—disabled the setting, and restarted the machine. The minute the desktop reappeared, he clicked the network drive.
“Okay, okay. Go to Control Panel > Credential Manager > Windows Credentials. See if there’s a stale entry for that drive. Remove it.” Then Mira laughed, suddenly awake
“But there is no password,” he whispered. The drive had always been open. No login. No history. Just free access.
“It’s Microsoft. Try this: Go to Local Security Policy > Security Options > Accounts: Limit local account use of blank passwords to console logon only. Set it to Disabled. Reboot.” Windows 11 sometimes asks for a network password
He did. Nothing changed. The password prompt still glared at him.
