"What storm?" Lois asks.

"It's not burnout." She turned to face him. "It's a signal. DD5.1. That's not random. That's Dolby Digital — surround sound metadata. Someone's encoding a message into the ambient noise of this town."

"You really heard her," he says. "Before anyone else. Before even me." Lois closes her eyes
