as Harry Morgan is a masterstroke. Slater excels at playing charismatic yet morally compromised men. His Harry will likely be more conflicted than the saintly figure Dexter remembered—showing the guilt of a father who created a killer.

Hall serves as an executive producer and his narration frames the entire story as Dexter looking back at his origins. This creates a fascinating tension: we know how the story ends (the original series and New Blood ), so every mistake young Dexter makes is tinged with tragic irony. Original Sin is directly tied to the New Blood finale. At the end of that series, Dexter’s son, Harrison, shot him and fled. Dexter was last seen bleeding out in the snow. But he didn’t die. as Harry Morgan is a masterstroke

The season will track Dexter's first kills, his internship at Miami Metro Homicide, and the early relationships that defined him, including his awkward bond with his sister, Debra, and his rivalry with the ambitious Sergeant James Doakes. One of the biggest draws of Original Sin is its clever double-casting. Showtime has brought in big names to play younger versions of beloved characters, while also bringing back original actors for framing-device narration. | Young Character | Actor | Original Actor

For years, fans of Dexter have wondered: How did a charming, blood-spatter analyst become a meticulous serial killer? After the controversial original series finale in 2013 and the mixed reception of Dexter: New Blood in 2021, Showtime is going back to the very beginning.

The prequel is presented as a flashback in Dexter’s mind as he lies near death, waiting for help. This framing device allows the show to have its cake and eat it too: a full prequel story with a ticking clock in the present. Showtime has already confirmed a New Blood sequel series ( Dexter: Resurrection ) starring Michael C. Hall, so Original Sin is effectively setting the stage for that revival. Unlike the sleek, modern Miami of the original, Original Sin is drenched in 1990s nostalgia —flip phones, CRT monitors, vintage cars, and a grimy, analog police precinct. The producers promise the same black humor and procedural "kill of the week" structure, but with a coming-of-age twist.
